The Federal Government (FG) has been charged to strengthen its efforts regarding security and protection across the country.
The Secretary General of the United Nations World Congress of Diplomats (UN -WCD) Prof Tunji John Asaolu gave the charge in an interview with newsmen during an event to mark this year’s International Day for Happiness in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
While stating that it was the primary duty of government to ensure the protection of life and property of the people, Prof. Asaolu called for the restructuring of the nation’s security architecture.
The UN -WCD scribe urged the government to ensure that there was relative peace across every nooks and crannies of the country as peace was crucial for sustainable development.
Speaking further, he called on Nigerians to be security conscious and report suspicious movement to security agencies.
“The issue of insecurity is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. The entire world is being faced with the same issue but this is not to say that the government of Nigeria should take it as an advantage”
“There are some country in the world that are not experiencing insecurity such as Finland and Switzerland that someone talk about and l think Nigeria need to step up her game because it is the primary responsibility of every government to make sure that the life and property of its citizens is being secured”, Prof Asaolu stated.
Earlier in his speech during the induction ceremony of new members of the organization,
the UN -WCD head of Policy and Diplomatic Relations, Dr. Larry Akintola Ajiola urged Nigerians to embrace dialogue in resolving conflict.
He enjoined the newly inducted members of the organization to pursue meaningful national development.
“The induction was successful just as we had planned. We’re happy to have quality people on board this time around. We believe they will donate a good job for us tomorrow “, Ajiola stated.
While charging the industees to strive to do better than the old members so as to enable the organization have more people being impacted in the society, Ajiola warned them not to be aggressive in resolving conflict but use diplomacy for the country to be a better society.
In her remarks, one of the industees who is the president of the Port Harcourt Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHACCIMA), Dr. Chinyere Nwoga pledged to leverage the opportunity to advance initiatives that would enhance workers welfare.
