Top Learner’s International School 2, on Thursday, emerged winner of the Inter- School Spelling Bee Competition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and won N100,000 cash prize from Miss Little Humanitarian 2023, Queen Isabel Dike, the sponsor.
Top Learners Int’l School 1 came second and got N70,000 while Majesty Grade International School received N50,000 for third position.
FeranHeight School was given N10,000 consolation prize after clinching the fourth position.
Gifts such as excercise books, water bottles, math set, drinks and snacks were given to the participants at the event.
Four out of 11 schools across Port Harcourt that were invited, participated in the competition which took place at Toplearners Int’l school, Eliowhani town in PortHarcourt.
Speaking at the event, the Sponsor, Queen Dike, said the competition was organised to encourage healthy competition among students in Port Harcourt and its environs.
”The inter-school Spelling Bee competition was put together to enhance vocabulary, spelling abilities and overall language skill of students. Also, encourage healthy competition, boost confidence, instill love for language among the participants. Furthermore, it was organized to foster a sense of community, as students, teachers, parents come together to celebrate academic achievements’, Queen Dike stated.
She congratulated the participants for their brilliant performances and also expressed appreciation to the teachers and schools that attended the occasion.
”My appreciation goes to the teachers and schools that participated, especially Mrs. Onyinyechi Oboh and Dr. Mrs. Ijeoma Okafor, for giving the children an opportunity to use their cognitive ability and vocal strength”, she said.
In an interview with newsmen after the competition, the Proprietress of Top Learners Int’l School, Dr. Ijeoma Okafor, commended the organisers of the competition.
”I am so excited. Infact, it was so competitive, we never believed that we’ll come out the best. The children fought the good fight of faith and made us proud. I can say I am very happy and I am proud to be the proprietress of Toplearners International school”, Dr. Okafor said.
Also speaking, Miss Divine Oluremi Amusa, who represented Toplearners Int’l school alongside Master Fortune Okoye Chibudom, thanked God for helping their team to win the competition.
