President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers kidnapped in Ekiti State.
He has equally condemned the killing of two traditional rulers, the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, David Ogunsola in the state.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, titled, ‘President Tinubu condemns killing of traditional rulers in Ekiti, directs immediate rescue of kidnapped pupils”, the President pledged that the perpetrators will not escape justice.
He condoled with their families and subjects, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and the people of Ekiti State on what he called a “deeply agonising development.”
Tinubu assured Nigerians that the nation’s security architecture would be robustly fortified for better and expected outcomes as the security of life and property remained the primary responsibility of his government.
It would be recalled that unknown gunmen had on Monday night abducted six pupils, three teachers and a bus driver when they were returning from Eporo-Ekiti.
According to a post by Ekititrends on its X account on Tuesday, the incident involved students from Apostolic Faith School, Ekiti.
Also, gunmen had on Monday attacked four traditional rulers who were returning from a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti in a vehicle being driven by one of their counterparts, the Alara of Ikole Ekiti, Adebayo Fatoba, at an area called “Ayo Shock” between Ipao and Oke Ako in Ikole Local Government Area of the State.
Two of the monarchs were killed in the ambush, while Fatoba fled the scene.
The chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Michael Ogungbemi, who confirmed the development, said the attackers tried to kidnap the three traditional rulers.
