Know why the use of ANOINTING OIL for ordination is unbiblical in the NEW TESTAMENT – 2 Corinthians 3:6A and Acts 13:1-4 KJV (part 1)
Text: 2 Corinthians 3:6A
“Who (God) also hath made us able ministers of the new testament”
In respect to my past write – up on “ANOINTING OIL” in the New Testament , a lot of people are asking about what the Bible says on the use of the ANOINTING OIL for ordination in the NEW TESTAMENT.
Please, permit me to refresh our memory that anointing oil was a shadow of the Holy Spirit (the Anointing Himself). Anointing oil is of the Old Testament (Old Covenant) under the Law of Moses. Anointing Oil is a shadow of the substance; and substance is the New Testament anointing by the Holy Spirit. That is, the Holy Spirit is the substance.
Let us read and study these scriptures with respect to this topic: Hebrews 10:1 (NIV) and Colossians 2:14-17 (NIV) “The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves…….having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
That is, the reality is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Christ is the end of the Law and it was in Jesus Christ that the Law was fulfilled – John 1:17 KJV, Romans 10:4 KJV and Matthew 5:17 KJV John 1:17 (KJV) and Romans 10:4 (KJV) “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ….For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth…Think not that I (Jesus Christ) am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I (Jesus Christ) am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Anointing oil was of the Old Testament, a shadow of the Holy Spirit (the substance) in the New Testament covenant – the dispensation of the Holy Spirit dwelling in the life of a true believer.
The Old Testament of the Holy Bible represents and uses shadows while the New Testament is the substance (reality).
If you carefully study all the 39 books of the Old Testament, you would discover that in the whole Old Testament, there no mention of the Name ‘Jesus’ but by looking at every shadow, the substance of it is the Lord Jesus Christ revealed in the New Testament.
In the Old Testament, manna was a shadow of Jesus: John 6:48 – 49, 58 KJV “I (Jesus Christ) am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead… This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live forever.”
Another one is “Sabbath”. Sabbath was a shadow of Jesus: Matthew 12:8 KJV “For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day.”
Still another example of shadow of the Old Testament pointing to the substance/reality (the Lord Jesus Christ) is serpent raised in the wilderness, that is, serpent raised by Moses in the wilderness: John 3:14 KJV “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up”
Furthermore, water coming from a rock also in the wilderness: 1Corinthians 10:4 KJV “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
All the shadows of the Old Testament are of the Lord Jesus Christ (the substance). Even sacrifices and offerings of the Old Testament were the shadows pointing to the Lord Jesus Christ, the substance (reality) of the New Testament: Ephesians 5:2 KJV “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.”
Do you know that the first fruit in the Old Testament is one of the shadows?
By the special grace, we shall continue this subject next week.
