Former Governor of Rivers state and now Minister of the federal capital territory, Nyesom Wike has given millions of naira and landed property to some people of Rivers South East Senatorial district.
Presenting the monetary and land gifts to the beneficiaries during an ocasion held at Koroma in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers state, the Minister who was represented by the Senator representing Rivers south-east senatorial district, Sen. Barinada Mpigi, said that 120 people were selected for the cash donations while 20 others for the land gift in the first phase.
The Minister said that in the coming months more people will benefit in the district.
Our correspondent reports that the beneficiaries which were drawn from Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo, Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro LGAs, received between N20 million, N10 million, N5 million, N500,000 and N200,000 respectively.
Pundits are of the opinion that the event may have been put together to win the support and solidarity of the people of the Senatorial District to him, as state governor, Siminialayi Fubara hails from Opobo town in the district.
They observed that there has been a fierce struggle going on to take control of the grassroots and build new political structures between the Minister and the governor since after they fell apart.
They revealed that their loyalists have been calling ward meetings where locals are given money to gain their support in preparation of the 2027 general elections.
