A landlord, identified as Boma, has allegedly hacked his tenant at Eneka axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The tenant, Gabriel Ogiri, who spoke to Metronetworknews , said the landlord came to his apartment to demand for his rent and as he (Ogiri) started pointing out all the renovation works he carried out in the house, the landlord became provoked and used a hard object to hit his head and left eye.
Ogiri whose face was covered with blood as a result of the deep cut, claimed that the land lord tried to escape after attacking him but was caught by other tenants in the compound who handed him over to the police.
Recounting how he was attacked by his landlord, the father of four who was writhing in pains said ,” This morning around 6:27 am, as my family was observing morning devotion, my landlord came and asked me if I was moving out or retaining my apartment because my rent had expired since on the 20th of May, 2022.
”When I started pointing out all the renovation works that I have carried out in the building with his consent, he became provoked and grabbed my shirt. Before I knew it, he used the helmet that was in his hand to hit me on my head and eye.
‘As I shouted, my neighbours came out. He tried to escape when he saw them but, they caught him. One of my neighbours called his relative who is a military officer. The officer in turn put a call across to Okporo Police station from where some policemen came to effect his arrest.
” I wonder why he would inflict injuries on me. This is a young man who came to me sometime ago that he wanted to go to school and he doesn’t have money and I gave him N25,000 out of N30,000 he requested for. He is from Imo state. He is bearing Boma because his mother is from Rivers state. He inherited the property from his father. They are four brothers that shared it”, ogiri narrated.
All efforts to speak with the landlord proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
