The Rivers state High Court presided over by Justice M. W. Danagogo, has sentenced Boma Thompson, Emelike Mathias, and Daniel Thankgod to death by hanging or by lethal injection for kidnapping and murder of Chief Abbot Ogbobula.
They were found guilty of a four-count bordering conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, conspiracy to murder, and murder.
In its judgment, the trial judge, Danagogo discharged and acquitted the 3rd defendant, Goodnews Nwoka, a.k.a. Maximum, on all the counts of conspiracy, kidnapping and murder of Ogbobula.
He, however, on conspiracy to kidnap, convicted and sentenced the first, second and fourth defendants to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine.
On the kidnapping, the judge convicted and sentenced the first, second and fourth defendants to death by hanging.
On conspiracy to murder late Chief Abbot Ogbobula, he sentenced them to 14 years imprisonment with no option of fine.
On the murder, they were convicted and sentenced to death by hanging or by lethal injection.
Ogbobula, now deceased, was kidnapped at Ahoada and whisked away by his abductors to Manikin forest in Degema Local Government Area of the state where he eventually died In June 2017.
Though his abductors buried him in a shallow grave in the bush, his body was later exhumed by the police during investigations.
Thereafter, four persons were arrested and charged to court on four counts of conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, conspiracy to murder and murder of Ogbobula.
