Residents of Port Harcourt witnessed the first rainfall in 2026, today thursday January 1, as the oil-rich city experienced downpour for about 60 mins in the afternoon.
The rainfall was accompanied by lighting, sound of thunder and strong wind.
A resident, Mr. Chinedu Emenike described the downpour as showers of blessing, stating it showed that the year was going to be fruitful.
Another resident, Mr. Jane Tekena said she was about taking her kids to the amusement park at about 3pm when she heard the sound of rain.
Mrs. Tekena added that the rainfall thwarted her plans to celebrate the new year day at the park.
Some other residents prayed the rain would continue to ease off the hot weather.
