Rivers State Police command was forced to intervene today after some members of All Progressives Congress(APC), believed to be supporters of one of the governorship aspirants, Sen. Magnus Abe, invaded the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt to protest their alleged exclusion from the delegate congress.
The Police was said to have fired gun shots and tear gas to break up the protest by the supporters, some of whom were carrying placards with the inscription,’ this was the kind of attitude that led to the loss of the party in 2015 general elections”.
Unconfirmed reports said some of the protesters sustained various degrees of injuries as they were being chased away from the area.
Metronetworknews gathered that the quick intervention of the police prevented a bloody clash between Abe and Amaechi supporters.
It learnt that the incident took place when the the Rivers State APC Congress Committee from Abuja, arrived the state to commence screening of aspirants as well as hold a stakeholders’ meeting.
