The Spokesman of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Kola Ologbodiyan has faulted claims by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate picked people from Rivers State as members of the presidential campaign council without carrying him along and that for that reason he (Wike) and his supporters will not campaign for the PDP at the Presidential level.
Speaking on a live national television programme, on Tuesday, the spokesman explained that the person who is in charge of nomination into campaign council is the National Organizing Secretary of the party and not the Presidential candidate.
He said that the PDP National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature informed him that requests for nomination of persons into the campaign council were made to all state chapters of the party but that the Rivers state chapter did not respond.
His words; “I read the position of Gov. Nyesom Wike as it concerns the nomination to the campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party. I want to say that he has right to be angry and he has expressed that anger which has now generated the conversation within the party and the campaign council.
“Let me state that the person who is in charge of nomination into campaign council is the national organizing secretary of the party, Umar Bature and he came out and said all the state chapters of the party were written to and requests were made to nominate persons into the campaign council but that the Rivers state chapter did not respond.
“I want to say that the responsibility to nominate members into campaign council is wholly that of the party and also the National Organising Secretary, this time Umar Bature is the one in charge of nomination and he said he requested from all the chapters of the party to nominate members into the campaign council and also added that the Rivers state chapter did not respond. But if Gov. Wike’s disposition is as it affects the Special Advisers, Spokespersons that the candidate has appointed, I will like to say that that lies within the purview of the candidate to nomiate people as advisers or spokespersons. But in respect of nomination”, he s into the campaign council is wholly party affairs and I believe like umar said every state was asked to nominate members into the campaign”, he stated.
