Residents of Omachi street, Eliowhani town in Port Harcourt were thrown into shock on Wednesday after a tailor simply identified as Daniel in the neighbourhood was flogged to stupor by a new generation church pastor(names withheld) with the help of a thug.
The residents said the pastor and the thug stormed the tailor’s house in the morning, flogged him and left.
A neighbour who pleaded to remain anonymous said that the tailor was in the house when the pastor called him out.
The neighbour added that few minutes after he came out, the duo flogged him and left.
Another neighbour who also pleaded anonymity said that trouble started when the pastor came to pick his clothes from the tailor. And in course of their conversation an argument ensued between them over the amount to be paid for the service.
” l learnt that the tailor sewed the pastor’s clothes. So, when he came to collect it an argument ensued between them over the amount to be paid for the service.
“While the pastor said that it was N24,000 which they earlier agreed, the tailor said it was a lie and that N25,000 was what they agreed.
“This irked the pastor who left to buy canes and hire a thug at the Keke park, Rumuodara junction to add to himself to flog the tailor.
” Even if the tailor cursed him, it does not warrant him to flog the young man to the extent of making him slump. I gathered he was rushed to the Splendour hospital along farm road’, the neighbour disclosed.
Our correspondent reports that the incident triggered condemnation with many other neighbours questioning the pastor’s action.
They described the act as reckless and inhumane.
