The Governorship and State Assembly election in River state is being characterized by a low turnout of voters to polling units across the state.
Our correspondent who visited some units in Obio Akpor and Port Harcourt LGAs, reports that election begun as early as 8:30 am in most polling units.
At polling units 008 Ward 2 Eliowhani in Obio Akpor LGA, election commenced by 8:30 and it was smooth as voters were also seen discharging their civil rights without any hitches, he also reported.
Speaking in an in an interview with our reporter at the polling unit, a voter who simply gave his name as Uche said that the low turnout was because of fear that the gubernatorial and Assembly could degenerate into warfare and violence.
Meanwhile, the situation in the area is calm as agents and supporters of all the candidates are waiting to see the outcome of the elections.
