More Nigerians have continued to react to the video clip showing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike receiving the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport as well as ushering him to the State House, Abuja.
Here are their mixed reactions obtained from comment threads of some social media platforms;
~Olufemi Adegbulugbe: “The handshake between Wike and the Indian PM was clearly incomplete and abrupt showing something is wrong.
There was no eye contact and the overall body language was toxic.
“In this video, we see Wike disrupting the PM inner security by walking between the PM and inner security, almost colliding with the PM inner bodyguard.
“We see that Wike departed in a hurry and unceremoniously.
He should have been there to see the PM enter his car.
“That did not happen.
We must call a spade a spade.
Wike was not fit and competent to handle this assignment.
“Some have said there is nothing wrong with the video.
There is a lot wrong with the video. Imagine your host meandering between you and your inner body guards like a snake. Just see how he posed a security risk to the Indian bodyguards as they became agitated. Wike has shown here he is a local champion and has no business on the international space. Pure local champion. Just imagine the handshake at departure.
A very cold handshake.
An educated illiterate and local champion. They think everything on earth is politics!!!
Local village champs. Sorry
A disgrace”.
~Johnnie Onwuzulike: Haba..! Is Wike truly OK.., or is this a fake video?
“Why is he meandering around and in-between the Indian PM, & his Bodyguards?
“Walahi, Wike is not a fit & proper person for this – this is a huge breach. Shame…!!!
“Totally unequalled show of primitivity. That was an appalling dramatic moment of breach of the *Guest’s* Security by the *Host*.
“This video should be *archived* in the *How Not To Be A Government Functionary Hall of Shame*!
“We’re not all jungle people like that, and we do not want to be, pls.
“Never seen such before.
A host turned security risk!
These are illiterates in power.
A Pharaoh intimidated.”
David Jack: We are not surprised. When Wike was governor, he was making utterances not befitting governor of a highly respected state such as Rivers. Wike was uncouth in public speaking and his comments were embarrassing to every Rivers man. Now, he is embarrassing Nigerians with his primitive behaviour”.
~ Rev Amb Richard O. Ihunwo: “With what I/we have seen in that short video clip, there’s no iota of display of act of drunkenness by FCT minister–Nyesom Wike.
I sincerely suggest we pay attention to resetting Nigeria rather engaging in meaningless attack on individuals, top politicians, ethnic nations etc.
Let truth be told, No human is perfect, let nobody expect perfection from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike”.
It would be recalled that an independent journalist, Jackson Ude, in a post on his verified X handle, had alleged that the minister was barred from Aso Rock when the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi visited President Bola Tinubu.
Jackson claimed that Wike was drunk when he received the Indian Prime Minister at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Saturday.
According to him, an anonymous security officer spoke to him from the presidential villa.
Clearing the air, Wike, in a statement issued by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, countered the claim, insisting that the FCT Minister, received the Indian Prime Minister as directed by President Tinubu.
Contrary to Jackson’s claims, Olayinka said Wike was on Sunday morning “at the hotel to perform his duty of leading the visiting Prime Minister to the Presidential Villa.”
“Fact is, the FCT Minister led the Prime Minister to his hotel, from the Airport and it was from the hotel that he (Wike) led the Prime Minister to the Presidential Villa on Sunday morning, where his duty ended”, the statement said.
