Many streets in Port Harcourt were flooded after a heavy downpour that lasted for three days hit the Rivers state capital.
Flood waters took over most of the roads in the oil city as a result of the heavy rain which overflowed the water channels.
Both human and vehicular traffic were disrupted owing to the heavy flooding.
A resident who preferred to remain anonymous told our Correspondent that the flood took over their streets at Eliowhani town in the city.
” Our streets were taken over by floods. I had to carry my child on my back while going and returning from church due to the flood waters”, she said
Recall that Rivers state was among thirteen states put on the red alert for imminent flooding by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), recently.
The other states include; Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa.
According to the agency, the alert was issued following a notification from the Foreign Affairs Ministry that Cameroon plans to open the Lagdo Dam.
The Agency in Rivers State urged Local Government Councils to take proactive measures to reduce the impact of the predicted flooding in their areas.
