Tongues have started wagging over Gov. Siminialayi Fubara’s frequent donations of cash running into millions of naira to churches and other organisations, as some Rivers people are saying his actions have left them imagining if he would not behave like his predecessors.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, the people sued for restraints as some urged the governor to prioritise public spending on agriculture.
One of them who preferred to remain anonymous said that spending more on agriculture would go a long way to boost food production, as at the moment the complaint of the people have been hunger.
He urged the governor to emphasize on agriculture such that food would be in abundance and alleviate the sufferings of the people
He suggested that agriculture should be given priority inorder to guarantee food security in the state, opining that if food stuff is made available in sufficient quantity, it would go a long way to ameliorate the present hardship.
He pointed out that it is in agricultural activity that Rivers people could participate in economic development and in which they can most profit.
A school teacher who simply gave her name as Tonye said, ” As Gov. Siminialayi Fubara has started like this, very soon he will start going to the North to donate Rivers money to them like his predecessors did. Nothing seems to have changed between him and his predecessors. They are all the same. Take a ride around Port Harcourt metropolis, you will see what I talking about”.
It would be recalled that Gov. Fubara announced a donation of N200million to Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Worldwide, while addressing the congregation during the 51st Birthday of the General Overseer, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, and the 18th Anniversary Celebration of the church at the Headquarters, Mbodo, Aluu near Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Similarly, the governor donated N50million to the Diocese of Ahoada church, during the inauguration of ministry and enthromentment of Rt. Rev’D Hason Onyejiuwanaka Bernard and Mrs. Hason-Bernard as the 2nd Bishop of the diocese on 22nd Semptember 2024.
In the same vein, Gov. Fubara announced a donation of N10million to the Government House Chapel of Everlasting Grace in PortHarcourt, on Sunday September 15,2024.
The governor is said to have also made cash donations to several other churches, religious bodies and organisations in the state, recently.
