Aba, Enyimba city, the ever busy commercial hub of Abia State was
today, totally shutdown following the sit-at-home order by the members
of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Recall that IPOB, in a statement on Friday through its Publicity
Secretary, Emma Powerful, had stated that the Monday, August 9th
2021, will be a total lockdown in Southeast, which the group tagged:
“Ghost Monday.”

The statement said that “Ghost Monday,” which would affect all
economic activities including schools and marketplaces, would
continue every Monday until its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is released.

Following the order by the IPOB, Aba is totally grounded today as
shops, banks, schools and marketplaces are totally shut down.

The order also affected motor parks as no commercial buses were
seen loading. Even Ochendo park in York Street Aba was also
grounded.

Metronetworknews reports that the Ochendo park is one of the major
motor parks in Aba that convey, majorly Abia State civil servants to
their Office in Umuahia, State capital.

Pictures and videos obtained by our reporter details how the Aba
residents showed a total compliance to the order by the IPOB
leadership led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

While the sit-at-home order by the IPOB has grounded business
activities in Aba, the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has
cautioned civil servants who obeys the order.

In a statement Issued on Monday by the Secretary to Abia State
Government, Barr Chris Ezem, the governor warned that workers
who absent themselves from their duty posts will be appropriately
sanctioned.

He added that only those who are exempted from work on the
account of COVID-19 protocol are to remain absent.

“The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has directed
that all civil servants must ensure they are at their place of work
today and going forward except those exempted from work based on
Covid 19 Guideline.

“The Governor further directs that the Head of Service should ensure
Compliance with this directive and sanction any person that
contravenes same appropriately” the statement read in part.
