The Nigerian Army has denied burning houses and firing at villagers during the raid it carried out on Monday night at the Eastern Security Network (ESN) camp in Mgbowo in Agwu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A statement on Tuesday by Major Abubakar Abdullahi, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, stated that there was no incident of indiscriminate firing or unprovoked burning of houses during the raid.
It added that two IPOB ESN ring leaders were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation with a security agency.
The statement noted that the trending videos in circulation claiming to represent the aftermath were not during the Agwu operation.
“Investigation into the video is ongoing to ascertain when and where it was shot and those involved”.
“Any personnel found culpable would be sanctioned accordingly. Updates will be communicated when investigation is completed”, it stated.
