The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, has called on youths in the state to come out enmasse on Saturday August 30, 2025, to vote for reliable and credible candidates that will govern them well at the grassroot.
The chairman of the council, Rotr. Comr. Nwisabari Bani Samuel, made the call while speaking at a town hall meeting organised by Rivers Peace Initiative in conjunction with Super 93.3 fm Port Harcourt and Centre for Peace and Security, University of Port Harcourt, on Friday.
He said that the local system was to bring government nearer to the grassroot and that the aim of the founding fathers was to have vibrant system that would ensure the participation of the grassroot in the development of the councils.
Furthermore, he said that the system was designed to elect responsible citizens at the grassroot.
” I call on youths in Rivers state who are up to age of voting and to be voted for to turn out en mass come August 30, 2025 to exercise their franchise and choose leaders that will reflect their desires.
” The local government is the closest tier of government to the people. You should vote for responsible leaders because their activities will either destroy or birth the pathway to development of the councils.
“You have nobody to blame if you don’t vote for good leaders. When other LGAs are advancing, yours will be different”, he warned.
Speaking further, the chairman urged youths to refrain from making themselves willing tools in the hands of unscrupulous politicians who want to use them to perpetrate violence for their selfish aggrandisement.
Samuel expressed optimism that many youths would be elected in the forthcoming election.
“We’re expecting that after the process alot of youths will be elected through opportunities provided by prominent political parties.
“We want to say thank you to likes of All Progressives Party(APC) and Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) that have showcase more of our youths.
” We look forward to a free, fair and credible election that would be conducted with the support of stakeholders; the youths, women and security agencies come August 30, 2025″, he stated.
