Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has joined in condemning the attack on the former Governor of Rivers state, Rt.Hon. Chibuike Amaechi as well as the burning and destruction of the Ubima ward Secretariat of the ADC located in his community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.
In a statement made available to the media, Chief Eze said, “attempting to stop Amaechi to move to his hometown to register shows how afraid both Wike and Tinubu are”.
He.further said, “Nobody is disturbed as Tinubu will surely be voted out by Nigerians that he has plunged into unprecedented hardship come 2027”.
Describing the action as dastardly, undemocratic, cowardly and an unfortunate trajectory that has permeated Nigeria’s political engagements, Eze called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the actions which clearly set yet another bad precedent in our polity, are brought to justice.
Eze.maintained that Amaechi’s defection to the ADC signals a significant boost for the opposition party, which has been ramping up its national profile ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He narrated that Amaechi was expected in his ward on Friday, for his official membership registration into the ADC when a gang of political thugs allegedly loyal to the FCT Minister, invaded the facility, unleashing mayhem, destroying everything on sight before finally setting the office ablaze.
He described the inability of President Tinubu to rein in WIKE accordingly in his efforts to derail our nascent democracy as most unfortunate, aating , “if he is allowed to continue like this only God knows what will be become of our democracy come 2027”.
He said, “It was reported that the incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday, just a few moments to Amaechi’s arrival for the registration ceremony.
“According to sources in the community, the operation lasted over 30 minutes and the perpetrators operated freely as they were armed to the teeth.
“According to local reports, the attackers invaded the community late Thursday night, firing gunshots before setting the party’s local secretariat on fire.
“Residents said the gunmen shot sporadically across parts of the area during the attack.
“Sources also disclosed that the suspected thugs returned early Friday and mounted a roadblock along the Omuawa–Ubima Road. Vehicles conveying ADC supporters or displaying party banners were reportedly prevented from entering the community.
“Not minding the fact that they burnt his ward Secretariat, mobilized vigilante and Some youth to stop his entrance into his LGA and ward, Amaechi proved that he is still the Lion of Niger Delta and not caring about his life disembarked from his car and marched to the idiots who have to run to the nearby bushes. By this act, Amaechi being the Lion that he is briefed the Wike’s boys that in ADC “we didn’t join to become weak people”, and successfully did his registration.
“The former Minister of Transportation, hails from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area, one of the LGA’s that has suffered the biggest casualties of Wike’s evil political machinations in every election circle”.
Eze quoted Amaech while addressing his supporters who thonged the venue to receive him as appealing for calm, urging his loyalists to resist any temptation toward reprisal or disorder.
“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody — don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community”, Amaechi said.
Despite the charged atmosphere, .the former Governor expressed satisfaction with the conduct of security operatives deployed to the area, singling out the state commissioner of police and the director of the Department of State Services for praise.
“We thank the commissioner of police and the director of DSS; they showed a lot of professionalism. In fact, I wasn’t expecting that from them; I thought they would be behind the criminals”, Amaechi said.
He subsequently called on security agencies to move swiftly to identify and prosecute those behind the arson, warning that such acts of intimidation would not deter the party’s activities in the area.
