Suspected cultists have reportedly shot the mother of a former council in PortHarcourt City Local Government, Area of Rivers state, Mr. Endurance. over alleged refusal of the former councillor to pay election security money to them.
Metronetworknews gathered that the incident happened in the early hours of Monday at Egede street, Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
It learnt that the suspected cultists led by one zubi met the former councillor in front of his house, demanding that he pays them their money.
It further learnt that the cultists who became infuriated after the former councillor insisted that he has no money, began throwing bottles into his compound.
According to the report, the suspected cultists later opened fire on Mr Endurance, which missed him but hit his mother.
When contacted the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the woman is receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital and investigation is on going.
Similarly, gunmen have reportedly shot a security guard, Innocent Igwe at Community Secondary School, Rumuakunde in Ikwerre LGA last night.
A source in the community said that the gunmen came at about 8 pm in an SUV and shot Mr Innocent at his duty post.
The eyewitness also said the gunmen shot sporadically and ran away, abadoning their SUV.
