Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike has issued a threat to demolish all informal settlements along Eastern Bye-pass road at Koko-ama community in Port Harcourt. which is home to around 5,000 people.
His Chief Security Officer(CSO) has been directed to chase the residents out of their homes and places of business to pave way for the demolition exercise.
The CSO is expected to commence the eviction of the residents within the next one week.
A statement by the Special Assistant,Media to the Governor, Mr. Kelvin Ebiri,stated that the exercise was to make way for the on-going dualisation of the Eastern-By-Pass Road.
The statement observed that shanties built along the road were delaying the completion of the road.
